Looking after it
Unwrap it, trim about 2 cm from each stem at an angle, and stand the bouquet in a clean vase of fresh water. Re-cut the stems and change the water every couple of days, and keep the vase out of direct sun and away from the air-conditioning. Birds of paradise and pincushion protea last for weeks in this climate. Each bird of paradise head can push out a second flower if you ease the first one open.
